US Federal Contractor Registration

How USFCR Expanded Government Bid Intelligence with an AWS Data Lake

The Client

US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR) is the largest and most trusted System for Award Management (SAM) registration and renewal services. USFCR has completed over 100,000 compliant SAM registrations for businesses and nonprofits during their 10 years in business. They also provide set-aside registrations and certifications, including women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZone, 8(a) Business Development Program, and other federal contracting services, training, and technology.

DESCRIPTION

RevStar partnered with USFCR to strengthen application security across three AWS-hosted government contracting applications while designing an AWS-native Opportunity Data Lake that securely automates the ingestion of government bid opportunities from state, county, and municipal sources.

RESULTS

Established a secure and scalable AWS foundation across three applications while delivering an opportunity intelligence platform that provides near real-time bid updates, expands government opportunity coverage, improves data freshness, and supports future nationwide growth.

The Challenge

As USFCR expanded its government contracting platform, the organization focused on strengthening security governance across three AWS-hosted applications while continuing to enhance its opportunity intelligence capabilities.

Each application followed its own development pipeline and security practices, making it increasingly difficult to maintain consistent vulnerability management, identity governance, and operational visibility as the platform evolved.

At the same time, USFCR wanted to expand beyond federal opportunities to include state, county, and municipal solicitations through an AWS-native Opportunity Data Lake. The organization needed a secure, scalable foundation that could support both continued platform innovation and stronger protection of sensitive contractor data.

The Problem

USFCR needed a scalable way to secure sensitive federal contractor information across three separate AWS applications while standardizing application security and access governance. In addition to supporting a growing number of public data sources, the organization required standardized secure application testing (SAST), centralized credential management, and continuous threat detection to reduce security risk without slowing platform growth.

The Solution

RevStar partnered with USFCR to establish a consistent security foundation across its AWS environment while continuing to expand the company's opportunity intelligence platform. We standardized automated static application security testing (SAST) across all three applications, strengthened multi-account identity governance through AWS IAM, centralized credential management, and enhanced continuous threat detection to better protect sensitive contractor information.

Building on this secure foundation, RevStar designed an AWS-native Opportunity Data Lake that automates the collection, processing, and delivery of government bid opportunities from state, county, and municipal sources. Scalable ingestion pipelines, centralized data storage, and cloud-native automation enable continuous opportunity updates while supporting future geographic expansion.

The Team

We have a growing cost-effective hybrid team, with onshore Product Managers and developers from our build center in Colombia. Operating three parallel teams for different products and support.

Results

RevStar implemented continuous automated security code scanning across USFCR's three applications, covering more than 307,000 lines of code and providing ongoing visibility into code-level security risks before they reach production.

Building on this secure foundation, USFCR expanded government opportunity coverage, increased bid data freshness, strengthened governance, and established a reusable AWS architecture capable of supporting future nationwide growth.
